experiencing sudden illness or trauma, with a triage system in place to
determine care priorities. For more severe cases, the department coordinates

MD/DO - Physician/Family Medicine
Arc Health is seeking a full-time Med-Peds or Family Medicine Physician for a Tribal health facility based in Kotzebue, AK. This is a regional facility that serves as the hub for 11 remote villages. It has a 17-bed inpatient ward, no surgery, and provides outpatient/ emergency care to Alaskan Natives. Within the system there is a strong network of Community Health Workers, NPs and PAs that staff the smaller, remote clinics. This position would begin as soon as credentialed. Here are some key features of this job:
Location:
Kotzebue is located above the Arctic Circle in northwest Alaska. It is a remote community, accessible primarily by air, and serves as a hub for several smaller surrounding villages.
The area is home to a predominantly Alaska Native population, particularly Inupiat Eskimos.
Work Setting:
As an outpatient family medicine physician, you would work at the Maniilaq Health Center, which serves the region.
The role is focused on outpatient care, meaning you'll provide general health care services for patients of all ages without requiring hospital or emergency room coverage.
Scope of Practice:
The physician would be responsible for a wide range of services, including routine checkups, preventative care, treatment of acute illnesses, management of chronic conditions, and minor procedures.
Due to the rural nature of the area, the physician may need to be comfortable with a broad scope of practice, as referrals to specialists can be limited.
Cultural Sensitivity:
Working in Kotzebue requires an understanding of the cultural and healthcare needs of the Alaska Native community. Physicians are expected to provide culturally sensitive care and work closely with community health aides and local staff.
Telemedicine & Collaboration:
Physicians often collaborate with other healthcare providers and specialists via telemedicine, especially for complex cases, as access to specialist care in rural Alaska is limited.
Lifestyle & Adventure:
Kotzebue offers a unique lifestyle, with outdoor activities like fishing, hunting, dog mushing, and opportunities to experience the Arctic environment. However, the remoteness and cold climate may require adaptation.
The community is tight-knit, and many healthcare providers find their work here incredibly fulfilling due to the impact they have on the community’s overall health.
Ideal candidate – clinically capable, personally willing to be flexible, get on plane and work in remote area, come back and do inpatient. Also comfortable working with SUD.
Length: 4 - 6 week rotating schedule
Support staff/EMR: Team of RN, MA, and an expansive network of Community Health Workers. EMR is Cerner.
Alaskan medical license strongly preferred but not required to start.

Serve a Rural Hawaiian Community in a Truly Unique Setting
Join Arc Health in Hana, East Maui
Arc Health is seeking a mission-driven, board-certified Family Medicine physician to join our team in Hana, East Maui, starting mid-May 2025. This is a rare opportunity to provide full-spectrum primary and urgent care in one of the most remote and culturally rich communities in Hawai'i. If you are committed to rural medicine, emergency care, and community health, this position offers both professional and personal fulfillment.
Why Hana?
Hana is Hawai'i as it once was—a deeply connected, 80% Native Hawaiian community that embraces its traditions, language, and way of life. The local school integrates Hawaiian immersion education, and the area remains untouched by commercial development.
Life here is beautiful, slow-paced, and deeply community-focused—but also requires adaptability, resourcefulness, and a strong commitment to serving the people.
The Role
As the sole physician in Hana, you will provide comprehensive primary and urgent care in a busy outpatient clinic while also managing emergency cases with limited external support. The nearest hospital is two hours away, meaning strong clinical judgment, triage, and procedural skills are essential.
Key Responsibilities
? Full-Scope Primary Care – Serve patients of all ages, from keiki (children) to kupuna (elders), providing preventive, chronic, and acute care.
? Emergency & Urgent Care – Manage cases such as chest pain, laceration repairs, dislocations, pediatric respiratory distress, ocean-related injuries (fish hooks, sea urchin spines, jellyfish stings), falls, and trauma.
? School-Based Clinic Coverage – Provide care for students as needed.
? Basic Radiology & Lab Work – No X-ray tech is available; providers take their own X-rays and utilize the onsite dispensary and limited lab services.
? Resourcefulness & Independence – Handle a broad range of cases with minimal backup. Medivac services are available but weather-dependent.
What to Expect
?? Schedule: Clinic Thursday - Saturday; call coverage Thursday - Sunday.
?? On-Call Duties: Be on call from 5 PM - 8 AM. Limited phone service means you must remain at home during call shifts.
?? No On-Site Pharmacy: Medications are dispensed from a limited clinic stock.
?? Remote Living: Hana is very rural—only two small grocery stores, no nightlife, and limited services. Most shopping is done once a month or less on trips to the other side of the island.
?? Housing & Travel Provided: Arc Health covers transportation and accommodations.
Who Should Apply?
? Physicians who thrive in remote, resource-limited settings and can work with minimal backup.
? Those comfortable with emergency medicine, procedural care, and autonomy.
? Mission-driven providers who want to immerse themselves in a small, traditional Hawaiian community.
Ready to Make a Difference?
If you have the skills, heart, and adaptability to serve in one of the most breathtaking yet challenging locations in Hawai'i, we want to hear from you!
