ID: 64680426 Shift: 3 X 12 hour shifts Description: The Charge Nurse is responsible for the smooth and efficient patient flow within the hospital. Delegates assignments and provides supervision for the support staff in accordance with their level of training and the patient s acuity. Works in cooperation with medical providers to ensure the quality of patient care. SUMMARY All employees are expected to perform their duties as set forth here and in accordance with the mission, values, and vision of Catalina Island Health (CIH). The person doing this job is responsible for a variety of tasks that lead to a high level of customer satisfaction with respect and dignity. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Supervise nursing staff during shifts, providing guidance and support. 2. Develops and posts work schedules for nursing staff. 3. Provides direct patient care as needed. 4. Assigns lunches and breaks for nursing staff. 5. Act as a liaison between the nursing team, physicians, and other departments to ensure effective communication and coordination. 6. Ensure compliance with all hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. 7. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and patient safety programs. 8. Conduct audits, monitor performance metrics, and implement corrective actions to improve patient care and outcomes. 9. Monitor patient flow and manage staffing levels to optimize care delivery. 10. Oversee admissions, transfers, and discharges effectively. 11. Lead response efforts during emergencies, ensuring safety for patients and staff. 12. Assess patient conditions and prioritize care based on severity and needs. 13. Ensure adherence to clinical protocols and standards of care. 14. Effectively problem solves for self and other personnel on shift. 15. Ensures medication orders and medication stock are UTD. 16. Ensures supplies have been ordered and UTD. 17. Compiles chart audits to ensure all information is updated in the medical record. 18. Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement patient care plans. 19. Assists with providing patient/family education if needed as well as addressing and escalating issues as needed. 20. Performs other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Nursing. PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS Knowledge, Skills, Abilities 1. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. 2. Proficient in electronic medical records (EMR) and other healthcare technologies. 3. Knowledge of theories, principles, and techniques of nursing as applied to a variety of health needs and practices. 4. Current trends and practices in professional nursing. 5. Preventive medicine in the context of services provided at CIH. 6. Treatment, prevention, and early detection of conditions communicable diseases, chronic diseases, and handicapping conditions. 7. Respiratory therapy within the scope of practice of an RN. 8. EKG and telemetry monitoring. 9. Principles of work direction and training of other staff 10. Must be able to perform a wide variety of professional nursing services. 11. Operates a wide variety of standards and specialized patient care equipment. 12. Oversees patient/resident safe handling policies and procedures. 13. Oversees the work of Para-professional and support staff. 14. Maintain quality control in work performed. 15. Observe safety precautions related to the work. 16. Follow written and oral instruction of a technical nature. 17. Deals with patients who may be under physical or emotional stress. 18. Establish, and maintain cooperative relationships with patients, families, medical staff, and other fellow workers in the care team. 19. Ability to prioritize tasks and work to be completed. WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed in a Critical Access Hospital and Rural Health Clinic. It involves frequent contact and interaction with patients, physicians, and other CIH staff members and departments. Employees may be exposed to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions that are common to a clinical environment. Safety policies and good health practices are expected to be understood and observed. ORGANIZATIONAL REQUIREMENTS 1. Be compliant with organizational policies and procedures and related departmental procedures. 2. Follow all HIPAA regulations as outlined in the HIPAA Policy and Procedure Manual. 3. Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. 4. Excellent customer services skills for both inter and intra department. 5. Other duties as assigned by the physicians and supervisor. 6. Other general administrative duties and projects as assigned. ATTITUDE 1. Work closely with patients in all age categories. Patients are treated with care and compassion and with special regard for age-specific considerations. 2. Varied activities including standing, walking, reaching, bending, and lifting. Requires full range of body motion and hand-eye coordination. 3. Manual dexterity to work within scope, including operating a computer, telephone, office, and medical equipment, as necessary. 4. Corrected vision and hearing to normal range. 5. Ability to work in stressful situations with fast and continuous work pace with variable workload. 6. Subject to many interruptions from multiple calls and inquiries, and potentially emotional situations involving accidents, injuries, and/or death. 7. Ability to handle emergency and crisis situations in accordance with policy. 8. Potential risk of exposure to hazards from blood borne pathogens and infectious diseases. 9. Potential risk of exposure to hazards from chemicals (toxic and non-toxic, flammable materials gas and electrical or radiant energy or equipment with or without moving parts). Additional Information:Housing is a studio apartment and is offered at $200 per week paid for by traveler. There is a $200 non-refundable cleaning fee. Boat Tickets are provided at the ferry ticket counter. No personal automobiles are allowed on the Island. Position Urgency:Normal Billing string = Medefis Guaranteed Hours: 36 Contract Weeks:112
