Arc Health is seeking Emergency Medicine-trained, board-certified physicians for ongoing locum tenens coverage at a new hospital facility in Ganado, Arizona. The current facility opened approximately 2.5 years ago, replacing the community's previous hospital, and features a 12-bed Emergency Department and 20 inpatient beds.

The Emergency Department treats approximately 18,000 patients annually, with a patient mix of approximately 70% adults and 20–30% pediatric patients. Providers typically see an average of 1.0–1.2 patients per hour.

The hospital is currently fully operational and staffed but is making changes to its existing physician coverage model. The facility is seeking locum tenens support for approximately 20 physician shifts per month, with a preference for physicians who can provide consistent, ongoing block coverage.

Compensation & Housing

Physician Requirements

  • Residency trained in Emergency Medicine
  • Board certified by ABEM or AOBEM
  • Active, unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state
  • Must apply for an Arizona medical license upon acceptance
  • Arizona license expected within approximately 3–4 months
  • Comfortable treating both adult and pediatric emergency patients
  • Comfortable stabilizing higher-acuity patients for transfer when necessary
  • Comfortable managing rare emergency deliveries presenting through the ED

***Candidates must be Emergency Medicine trained and ABEM or AOBEM board certified.

Emergency Department Details

  • 12 Emergency Department beds
  • 20 inpatient beds
  • Approximately 18,000 ED visits annually
  • Patient mix: approximately 70% adult / 20–30% pediatric
  • Average volume: approximately 1.0–1.2 patients per provider hour
  • 48 hours of provider coverage scheduled within each 24-hour period
  • All shifts are 12 hours
  • Shift start times: 7:00 a.m., 9:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m., and 7:00 p.m.
  • Higher-acuity patients may be transferred to Flagstaff, San Juan Regional Medical Center, or Phoenix depending on acuity and required level of care

OB & Specialty Support

The hospital does not currently have an OB department and is presently on OB diversion. Emergent deliveries in the Emergency Department are uncommon, with approximately 3–4 emergency deliveries so far this year.

  • Dedicated room available in the ED for emergency deliveries
  • Very low emergency delivery volume
  • Physicians should be comfortable evaluating, stabilizing, and managing an emergency delivery if necessary
  • OB services are anticipated to become available by approximately November
  • General Surgery services are anticipated by the end of the year

Scheduling

  • Approximately 20 shifts per month available
  • 12-hour shifts
  • Block scheduling available
  • Approximately 6–12 shifts per scheduling period
  • Minimum preferred block: approximately 4–5 consecutive shifts
  • Longer blocks of approximately 7–10 consecutive shifts can be accommodated
  • Ongoing availability strongly preferred

Licensing & Credentialing

Physicians may begin credentialing with an active, unrestricted medical license from any U.S. state. An Arizona license is not required to begin the assignment.

  • Estimated onboarding: 4–8 weeks
  • Any active U.S. state medical license accepted initially
  • Arizona license application required upon acceptance
  • Arizona license targeted within approximately 3–4 months
  • Hospital will consider reimbursement of Arizona medical licensing costs once an assignment has started
